Why does urine sometimes have a strong odor?

When urine leaves the body it is corroded by ammonia. A very strong smell arises during this process. The more concentrated the urine is, the more it smells.

People suffering from incontinence have a tendency to drink less, which makes the urine very concentrated. 

Drinking too little can also cause bladder infections, which is not only painful, but can also be one of the reasons behind a strong urine odor.
